If you’re short on time, this 2-day itinerary will help you experience the best of the Dolomites over a weekend.
How to Reach the Dolomites
• Nearest Airports: Venice (VCE), Milan (MXP), Innsbruck (INN)
• By Car: The best way to explore the Dolomites is by renting a car. Drive from Venice (3 hours), Milan (4 hours), or Innsbruck (2 hours).
• By Train & Bus: Take a train to Bolzano or Brunico, then a bus to your preferred destination.

Day 1: Exploring the Iconic Lakes & Villages

Morning: Lago di Braies (Pragser Wildsee)
• Start your day early with a visit to Lago di Braies, one of the most famous lakes in the Dolomites.
• Rent a wooden boat and paddle across the emerald waters (€25 for 30 minutes).
• Walk the 3.5 km loop trail around the lake (easy, 1–1.5 hours).

Midday: Cortina d’Ampezzo & Lunch
• Drive to Cortina d’Ampezzo, the famous ski resort town (1 hour from Lago di Braies).
• Stroll through the town center and admire its charming architecture.
• Have lunch at Ristorante Al Camin or SanBrite, known for their local alpine cuisine.

Afternoon: Tre Cime di Lavaredo Hike
• Head to Tre Cime di Lavaredo, the iconic three peaks of the Dolomites.
• Hike the Tre Cime Circuit (10 km, 3–4 hours, moderate difficulty) for stunning panoramic views.
• If short on time, walk to Rifugio Auronzo (30 minutes) for a breathtaking view.

Evening: Stay in a Mountain Hut or Hotel

• Visit early in the morning to enjoy the calm reflections of the mountains on the water.

• Take a short walk around the lake (20 minutes).

Midday: Alpe di Siusi (Seiser Alm) – The Largest Alpine Meadow

• Continue to Alpe di Siusi, Europe’s largest high-altitude meadow (1 hour from Lago di Carezza).

• Take the cable car from Ortisei (€22 round-trip) to reach the best viewpoints.

• Rent an e-bike or walk around the rolling meadows with views of the Sassolungo & Sella peaks.

• Have lunch at Gostner Schwaige, known for its cheese and local specialties.

Afternoon: Seceda – The Best Viewpoint in the Dolomites

• Take the cable car from Ortisei to Seceda (€38 round-trip).

• Enjoy one of the most iconic ridge views in the Dolomites.

• Short hike to Fermeda Towers (30–40 minutes) for more stunning scenery.

Evening: Drive Back or Stay in Bolzano

• If you have time, visit Bolzano, the capital of South Tyrol.

• Explore the old town and visit the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology to see Ötzi the Iceman.
